Overview

Development of two high-speed line follower robots with the MTH Robotics Club for the Madagascar Cup of Robotics 2022. The project included one Arduino-based robot and one non-Arduino robot. This work was part of a robotics apprenticeship at Itras Group.

Role & Responsibilities

Designed custom PCBs for the sensor arrays and integrated the microcontrollers directly onto the boards.

Programmed low-level C code and PID control algorithms.

Collaborated with a team under pressure to troubleshoot hardware and optimize robot speed.

System Architecture

Microcontrollers: Arduino Mega and PIC16F1938.

Chassis: Pololu Romi 2-wheeled chassis paired with the Romi 32U4 Control Board and motor encoders.

Sensors: High-Density (HD) QTR Arrays with 4 mm pitch for precise line detection.

Control Logic: Custom PID algorithm for fine-tuned speed and steering response.

Results & Recognition

Award: 1st Place Overall and two Gold Medals.

Evaluation: Both robots set new speed records in their respective microcontroller categories.
